This course will cover the history of the United States from the end of the Reconstruction through the Great Depression (1877-1940). Students will examine industrialization, urbanization, and the growth of the United States as an imperial power as they learn about topics such as the Industrial Revolution, immigration, Progressivism, the Spanish-American War, the Panama Canal, and World War I. Students will analyze the factors that led to the boom and bust of the 1920s and 1930s, and consider the causes of the Great Depression as they debate the role of the United States both domestically and in foreign affairs.
