Through the study of novels and shorter works, this course teaches foundations in critical thinking, speaking, viewing, and writing skills necessary for clear communication of ideas. Emphasis will be placed on maintaining focus, organizing ideas, as well as on providing rich supporting detail while using correct grammatical conventions. Novels and essays will generate topic for types of writing that will include expository, descriptive, narrative, and argumentative/persuasive modes. The course will provide students with the skills needed for most academic programs at the high school level and into their college studies.
